Springbok wing and 2018 World breakthrough Player of the Year Aphiwe Dyantyi has been ruled out of the start of the Rugby Championship this weekend after he returned to the Xerox Lions with a hamstring injury.
The Lions speedster picked up the injury on Friday and will see a specialist on Monday before linking up with the Lions to undergo his rehabilitation before returning to the Springboks.
A replacement has not been called up at this stage with the large stocks of wings in the squad which includes Sbu Nkosi, Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe being deemed sufficient to cover for Dyantyi.
More information about the extent of Dyantyi’s injury will be made in due course but for now, it appears that he will be in a race against time to get fit and get a chance to run out in the green and gold before boarding the plane for Japan in September to the Rugby World Cup.
