Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has made it clear that he is not thrilled about the prospect of being selected by the Washington Commanders in the 2024 NFL draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Daniels has shown interest in playing elsewhere outside of Washington.
The Commanders currently hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and are in need of a quarterback after trading former starter Sam Howell. However, Daniels’ pre-draft visit with Washington did not go well, especially after the team hosted four quarterbacks at the same time, including Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., and J.J. McCarthy.
Sources close to Daniels revealed that his agent was unhappy with the Commanders’ evaluation process, which involved all four prospects being assessed simultaneously. Daniels’ agent even went as far as liking posts criticizing the team for their handling of the situation.
Despite the potential interest from Washington, Daniels is coming off an impressive senior season at LSU, where he won the Heisman Trophy. In a recent mock draft, he was projected to be selected by the New England Patriots with the third overall pick.
Scouts have praised Daniels for his pocket presence and athleticism, but there are concerns about his arm talent and accuracy. It remains to be seen which team will ultimately draft the talented quarterback, but it seems clear that Daniels would prefer to land somewhere other than Washington.
