Glazers' privately discuss Erik ten Hag's progress and Chelsea comparison amidst Man Utd takeover uncertainty

The future of Manchester United’s ownership by the Glazer family is uncertain, as a takeover bidding process is underway. Despite this, it has been claimed that the Glazers are talking up their involvement in the club’s success after appointing Erik ten Hag. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and Thomas Ziliacus are among the bidders, but the current owners could retain a minority stake. Ten Hag has already delivered United their first trophy in six years, and the Glazers believe they have the personnel in place to challenge those ahead of them, despite their current position. The owners have received interest from various parties since revealing their openness to investment in the club in November.

According to ESPN, the Glazers have privately talked up their role in the club’s progress since Ten Hag’s appointment, despite United falling short of a title push this season. However, United has bested last season’s points tally, and there is every chance they end the campaign back in the top four. The Glazers have also pointed out Chelsea’s post-takeover struggles amid continued questions over new ownership for United. Todd Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich in west London in 2022, but the Blues sit in the bottom half of the Premier League and suffered Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage.

Although there is a bidding process in progress, there is a chance the Glazers may retain ownership of Manchester United. This season’s title will go to one of Manchester City and Arsenal, with the contenders due to face off at the Etihad Stadium on April 26 in a potential title decider. The current campaign will mark a decade since United was last crowned Premier League champions. The Glazers have received interest from various parties proposing funding models which could allow the family, or at least brothers Joel and Avram Glazer, to remain involved.
