Manchester City progressed to the Champions League semi-finals after a 2-1 win against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. Erling Haaland, who missed from the spot, made amends by scoring the opening goal in the 57th minute. Joshua Kimmich pulled one back for Bayern late into the second half, but it was too little too late to stop City from advancing with a 4-1 aggregate score. Despite his goal, Kevin De Bruyne insisted Haaland would not be satisfied with his performance after his uncharacteristic penalty miss.
“Knowing him, he will not be happy with missing the penalty, but it is over then. When you have another chance, you have to go again. He had the opportunity, finished it with class, and he helps us win games,” De Bruyne said to reporters after the game.
City will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, which provides them with a chance to avenge last year’s loss at the same stage. However, De Bruyne is not focused on revenge, stating that he has moved on from last year’s defeat.
“I am not that person. What happened last year happened. We played really well in the two games, and the last five minutes changed the course of the tie. You have to take it on the chin and move on. It happened, and it doesn’t mean we didn’t play well for the majority of the two games. Football is about details, and it happens, and you move on,” he said.
