Diogo Jota’s availability for the upcoming match against Tottenham is in doubt after West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal challenged him, causing a knock on his back during the midweek game. Jurgen Klopp expressed optimism about Jota’s condition but he was absent from Liverpool’s training session later that day, along with Thiago and Nat Phillips, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, Stefan Bajcetic, and Calvin Ramsay, making it seven senior players in total.
Klopp is closely monitoring Jota’s recovery and it is uncertain whether he and Thiago will be available for Sunday’s match against Tottenham. They might return to training on Saturday with individual programs, following Ibrahima Konate’s recent practice routine. On Friday, Konate and Luis Diaz returned to training with the team.
While Liverpool is gradually increasing Diaz’s playing time, it is unlikely that he will replace Jota as a starter against Tottenham. Instead, Darwin Nunez is a more probable stand-in. Klopp has been impressed with Jota’s recent performances and may choose to start him for the eighth consecutive time, provided he is fit.
According to Klopp, players who are willing to defend and counter-press have the “ticket” into the team, and Jota has displayed those qualities. Despite having other options like Nunez, Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo, Liverpool has included 17-year-old Ben Doak in their first-team training, indicating the club’s faith in the young player.
Klopp is carefully monitoring Jota’s recovery, and he will undoubtedly choose the strongest lineup possible for Sunday’s game, as he is known for getting the best out of his players.
On Friday, the Liverpool team was present for their training session.
