Virender Sehwag dismisses strike rate criticism of Lucknow captain, praises KL Rahul over Sanju Samson

The Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants are set to clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, with Sanju Samson and KL Rahul leading their respective teams. Currently, Rajasthan is at the top of the points table, having won four out of their five games, while Lucknow is second with six points from their five outings. Despite it still being early days in the Indian Premier League, a top-of-the-table clash is sure to affect the race to the playoffs.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag weighed in on the batting contest between the two captains, praising KL Rahul and dismissing criticism around his strike rate. According to Sehwag, Rahul’s form is a great sign for Lucknow, even if his strike rate has not met people’s expectations. He also noted that Rajasthan doesn’t have any fast bowlers, apart from Trent Boult, who has express pace or is very dangerous. However, if Rahul can bat for a long time, he will surely take them apart.

Sehwag further added that KL Rahul is far better than Sanju Samson when it comes to establishing oneself in the Indian team. Rahul has played Test matches and scored hundreds in many countries, performed well in ODIs, both as an opener and in the middle order, and has also scored runs in T20 cricket.

This season so far, Rahul has scored 155 runs in his five matches at a strike rate of 113.14, while Samson has amassed 157 runs at a strike rate of 165.26 in as many games. With the top two teams set to face off, the outcome of the match will certainly have an impact on the race to the playoffs in the Indian Premier League.
