Philadelphia 76ers fans have something to cheer about as star player Joel Embiid is set to make his return from left meniscus surgery. Sources close to the team have informed ESPN that Embiid could make his comeback as soon as Tuesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Embiid has been diligently working on his conditioning to ensure he is ready to hit the court once again. The big man has been sorely missed by the 76ers, who are currently sitting in 8th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 40-35 and seven games left in the regular season.
Despite his absence, Embiid, the reigning NBA MVP, has been leading the league in scoring with an impressive 35.3 points per game. He was even on track to join the legendary Wilt Chamberlain as the only other player to average at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in a season.
However, in order to qualify for the league scoring title, a player must participate in 70% of their team’s games. This leaves the door open for Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, who currently leads the NBA in scoring with 34.0 points per game.
Embiid’s return couldn’t come at a better time for the 76ers as they look to secure their playoff spot and make a strong push for the championship. Fans will undoubtedly be eager to see their star player back in action and leading the charge on the court. Stay tuned to Forever Sports Online for more updates on Embiid’s return to the game.
