Jesuit High School Rugby Team Makes History with Invitation to International Tournament
Sacramento County’s Jesuit High School is making waves in the world of rugby as its varsity team prepares to travel to Munakata City in Fukuoka, Japan for a prestigious international tournament. This groundbreaking invitation marks the first time a US team has been asked to participate in the tournament, a significant milestone for both the school and the country as a whole.
The team earned this opportunity after placing second in a national tournament last year, catching the attention of organizers who were impressed by their skill and sportsmanship. This year’s team is predominantly made up of freshmen and sophomores, as there is an age cutoff for the tournament, providing these young players with an invaluable international playing experience.
During the tournament, the Jesuit High School team will face off against two Japanese teams and a team from New Zealand, a country renowned for its rugby prowess and for producing 22 All Blacks, the national team. Despite the tough competition, the coaches are confident that the experience will only serve to make the team stronger in the future.
For the players, many of whom have never traveled overseas before, this trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to broaden their horizons and immerse themselves in a new and exciting rugby culture. The Jesuit High School community has a long-standing connection with Japan, adding a special significance to this journey for both the students and the school.
The team will be accompanied by 30 players, two coaches, two administrators, a trainer, and additional staff, all of whom are looking forward to representing their school and country on the global stage. As they embark on this unforgettable adventure, the Jesuit High School rugby team is sure to make a lasting impact both on and off the field.
