Malika Andrews Set to Host NBA Finals for ESPN
Malika Andrews, the rising star at ESPN, is set to become the new host of the NBA Finals for the network. The 28-year-old reporter will replace Mike Greenberg, who has been hosting the show for the past two years.
Greenberg was brought in to stabilize “NBA Countdown” after the controversy involving Maria Taylor and Rachel Nichols. However, ESPN has decided to overhaul its top NBA coverage, resulting in Greenberg’s departure.
Alongside the change in host, ESPN has also made adjustments to its lead play-by-play team. Mike Breen will be joined by Doris Burke and Doc Rivers, bringing a fresh dynamic to the broadcasts.
The decision for Greenberg to leave “Countdown” was a mutual agreement between him and ESPN. Greenberg cited his busy schedule as the reason for his departure.
Meanwhile, Andrews will continue to serve as the host of “NBA Today.” Her rise to prominence at the network has been remarkable. Andrews first gained recognition as ESPN’s on-site reporter during the NBA bubble in 2020. Since then, she has taken on more prominent hosting duties, including the NBA Finals and “NBA Countdown.”
ESPN has also made changes to the rest of the “Countdown” show. Jalen Rose has been let go as part of the network’s recent layoffs. The remaining cast consists of Stephen A. Smith and Michael Wilbon, with a third member likely to be added in the near future.
Lisa Salters will continue her role as the lead sideline reporter for game broadcasts, providing crucial in-game updates and insights.
The new lineup for the NBA Finals and “NBA Countdown” represents ESPN’s commitment to delivering top-notch coverage of the league. With Andrews taking the helm as the host, viewers can expect a fresh perspective and insightful analysis throughout the Finals.
