The Denver Broncos are making moves to fill out their 90-man offseason roster by signing undrafted free agents, including Utah tight end Thomas Yassmin. Yassmin, an Aussie born with a rugby background, is eligible for the NFL’s International Player Pathway program as he was born abroad and did not play U.S. high school football. His agent has confirmed his eligibility for the program.
This comes as the NFL announced that teams can now carry an international player as part of the IPP program and will have an extra spot on the practice squad for an international player starting in 2024. The Broncos had previously worked out Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, but he ultimately signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Interestingly, last year Denver had defensive lineman Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi as part of the IPP program, but did not re-sign him this spring. Yassmin could potentially fill the international spot for the Broncos in 2024, adding depth and diversity to their roster.
The IPP program aims to provide international athletes with the opportunity to showcase their talents in the NFL and develop their skills within the league. With Yassmin now on board, the Broncos are looking to capitalize on this initiative to strengthen their team for the upcoming season.
