FIFA President Condemns Violence during Trabzonspor vs Fenerbahce Match
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has called for swift action following a violent clash between Trabzonspor supporters and Fenerbahce players on Sunday night. The incident occurred as Fenerbahce players were celebrating their 3-2 victory on the pitch, only to be attacked by home supporters.
Images captured fans attempting to use a corner flag as a weapon, while security escorted players to the dressing room for their safety. Infantino has labeled the violence as “absolutely unacceptable” and has urged the relevant authorities to take action.
In response, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has launched an investigation and vowed to identify those responsible for the attack. The Turkish Football Federation has also condemned the incident and promises punishment after the investigation is completed.
This incident comes on the heels of the arrest of Ankaragucu club president for attacking a referee, which briefly suspended league games. Fenerbahce’s win keeps them within two points of league leaders Galatasaray, while Trabzonspor now finds themselves 30 points behind Fenerbahce.
The violent confrontation has sparked outrage and calls for increased security measures at football matches in Turkey. Forever Sports Online will continue to provide updates on any developments in this ongoing investigation.
