Welsh Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit Earns Tryout with Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are considering adding Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit to their roster for the 2024 season through the International Player Pathway Program. Rees-Zammit, a 23-year-old athlete, recently showcased his speed by running a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL’s international pro day.
As part of his tryouts, Rees-Zammit will be visiting the Denver Broncos on Monday and the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday to showcase his skills in running back, wide receiver, and kick returner positions. Known for his tackling abilities in rugby, Rees-Zammit would need to adjust to American football equipment and playbook if signed by the Chiefs.
The International Player Pathway Program aims to increase the number of international players in the NFL by providing elite athletes from around the world with the opportunity to earn a spot on a roster. In its history, 37 players from other countries have signed with teams through the program, with 18 currently on rosters and five players being active in games.
The program allows designated teams an extra offseason roster spot for the assigned player, who can either be signed to the 53-man roster or waived after training camp. The addition of Rees-Zammit could bring a unique skill set to the Chiefs and provide him with a chance to showcase his talents in the NFL. Stay tuned to see if Rees-Zammit secures a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster for the upcoming season.
