Florida Atlantic University’s basketball program is facing a major shakeup as star guard Johnell Davis has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and declare for the NBA draft. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Indiana had a standout season, earning AAC Player of the Year honors after averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. Davis also showcased his sharpshooting skills, hitting a career-best 41.4% from 3-point range.
One of the highlights of Davis’ season was his performance in FAU’s stunning victory over Arizona, where he scored 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The guard played a crucial role in the team’s success, helping lead the Owls to the Final Four in the 2022-23 season with averages of 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds.
However, Davis is now set to leave FAU as he explores new opportunities in the NBA draft. His departure adds to the list of players who have entered the transfer portal since head coach Dusty May departed for Michigan last month. FAU has been quick to make changes, recently hiring Baylor assistant John Jakus as May’s replacement.
As fans eagerly wait to see where Davis’ basketball journey takes him next, the Owls will have to regroup and rebuild their roster for the upcoming season. Stay tuned to Forever Sports Online for more updates on FAU basketball and all the latest sports news.
