Welsh Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit Eyes Move to the NFL with Kansas City Chiefs
Welsh rugby sensation Louis Rees-Zammit is turning heads in the world of American football, with the Kansas City Chiefs considering him for the 2024 season through the International Player Pathway Program. The 23-year-old speedster is set to try out for the Chiefs, along with the Denver Broncos, as part of his NFL journey.
During the NFL’s international pro day, Rees-Zammit impressed scouts by running a lightning-fast 4.43 40-yard dash. The versatile athlete is vying for positions as a running back, wide receiver, and kick returner, showcasing his unique blend of speed and tackling skills.
If Rees-Zammit dons a Chiefs jersey next season, the team will need to assist him in adjusting to American football equipment and playbook nuances. The International Player Pathway Program aims to bring more international talent to the NFL, with 37 players already signing with teams through the program, including 18 currently on rosters.
Teams designated for IPP players, like the Chiefs, are granted an extra offseason roster spot for them, giving them a prime opportunity to evaluate and develop potential stars. After training camp, teams can then decide whether to sign the international players to the 53-man roster or waive them.
As Rees-Zammit embarks on this exciting new chapter in his athletic career, all eyes will be on the Welsh wonder as he aims to make a splash in the NFL. Stay tuned to see if he’ll be bringing his electrifying talent to the gridiron with the Kansas City Chiefs in the near future.
