Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit is set to make waves in American football as he joins the Kansas City Chiefs as part of the International Player Pathway Program for the 2024 season. The talented athlete has also caught the attention of the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets during his recent visits.
Rees-Zammit is making a name for himself in the NFL after impressing scouts with a lightning-fast 4.43 40-yard dash at the league’s international pro day. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound player is trying out for various positions including running back, wide receiver, and kick returner, showcasing his versatility on the field.
Known for his impressive tackling skills in rugby, Rees-Zammit will need to adjust to American football equipment and playbook as he transitions to the NFL. The IPP aims to increase the number of international players in the league by providing elite athletes from around the world the opportunity to showcase their talents and earn a spot on a roster.
In IPP history, 37 players from other countries have signed with NFL teams, with 18 currently on rosters and five players actively playing. The program allows designated teams an extra offseason roster spot for the assigned player, who can then be signed to the 53-man roster or waived after training camp.
Fans are eagerly awaiting Rees-Zammit’s NFL debut and are excited to see how the talented rugby star performs on the American football field. Stay tuned to Forever Sports Online for updates on his journey in the NFL.
