New Zealand Secures Back-To-Back Titles at Singapore Sevens
New Zealand made a stunning statement at the Singapore leg of the world rugby sevens series by clinching both the men’s and women’s titles, marking their fourth consecutive win in the series for the women.
In the women’s final, Michaela Blyde put on a spectacular performance, scoring a hat-trick as New Zealand defeated Australia 31-21. The victory secured their fourth straight title in the series and showcased their dominance in the sevens format.
The All Blacks Sevens men’s team also emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Ireland 17-14 in the final to claim their spot in third place in the season standings. Despite finishing fifth in Singapore, Argentina managed to clinch their first regular-season title in the global sevens series.
With the top eight teams from the regular season securing spots in the 2025 series, all eyes are now set on the upcoming season finals in Madrid starting on May 31. Following the season finale, the focus will shift to the Olympic sevens tournament in Paris in July.
New Zealand’s strong showing in the world sevens series has them entering the Olympics in July in peak form, with the women’s team bagging consecutive titles in Vancouver, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The Kiwi teams finished with 126 points, leading Australia by two points and France by 22 in the season standings.
Meanwhile, Britain secured eighth place in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the Singapore leg. Argentina’s consistent performance throughout the regular season saw them claim the top spot in the standings, with captain Gaston Revol praising their journey to the top as difficult yet rewarding.
