NBA Teams Show Slow Progress in Signing Two-Way Contracts for 2023/24 Season
This upcoming NBA season, teams have been slow to finalize their rosters, with only 11 out of 30 teams having three players signed to two-way contracts. As training camp begins, players are given the opportunity to compete for these contracts as well as standard contract spots. Even if they don’t make the final roster, there’s still hope for these athletes as they could receive a bonus if they spend enough time with their club’s G League affiliate.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been proactive in signing new talent for their training camp deals. Among the signings are Nolley, Tevian Jones, Liam Robbins, and Trey Jemison. Of particular interest is Nolley, who is recognized for his promising developmental skills, especially in his shooting abilities.
Another standout player is Mayer, who caught the attention of the Houston Rockets during the Summer League. Standing at an impressive 6’9”, Mayer’s ability to stretch the floor has made him an attractive option for both two-way and standard contracts.
On the other hand, there are players like Washington who have NBA experience but have struggled to secure a long-term roster spot. This season, Washington faces a challenging task to make it onto the New York Knicks’ roster.
Then there’s Swider, a player who may have been overlooked during his college years, but he proved himself in the G League with the South Bay Lakers. The Miami Heat can benefit from his exceptional shooting ability.
While these are some noteworthy signings, it’s important to remember that other players not listed here could also make their way onto active rosters, and there’s potential for unsigned players to earn contracts through camp deals. Players like David Duke Jr., Trevor Keels, Louis King, Tyrese Martin, Skylar Mays, and Xavier Moon have shown great promise and could earn opportunities this season.
As the training camp progresses and teams continue to shape their rosters, fans eagerly await the final decisions and the exciting prospects the new season will bring.
