Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit is set to make a move to the NFL as he visits the Kansas City Chiefs for a potential spot in the International Player Pathway Program. The 23-year-old caught the eye of NFL scouts with an impressive 4.43 40-yard dash at the league’s international pro day, following his training at the prestigious IMG Academy.
Rees-Zammit, who is known for his speed and tackling skills on the rugby field, is trying out for various positions including running back, wide receiver, and kick returner with the Chiefs. If signed, the team would need to assist him in adjusting to American football equipment and playbook.
The International Player Pathway Program aims to enhance the number of international players in the NFL, providing opportunities for talent from around the world. Currently, 37 players from other countries have signed with teams through the IPP, including Chiefs’ Chukwuebuka Godrick.
Players in the IPP are granted an additional offseason roster spot and can be signed to a 53-man roster or waived after training camp. This program allows international athletes like Rees-Zammit to showcase their skills and potentially make a mark in the highly competitive world of American football. Stay tuned to see if the Welsh rugby star can make a successful transition to the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs.
